Billie Jo Fookes is a woven textile designer based in the South West of Victoria.

Longevity is a primary motivation behind the work she produces as Billie Jo has a particular interest in the connections and interactions people have with textiles over time. Through her work Billie Jo recognises and celebrates the intimate relationship between cloth and the human body, finding inspiration in both the natural world and traditional techniques handed down over generations. The slow, deliberate nature of handweaving means only a limited number of pieces are produced at a time.

With a keen focus on materiality and sustainability, Billie Jo only uses naturally occurring, renewable fibres that feel luxurious against the skin and are biodegradable. Yarns are sourced in Australia where possible, with a continued effort to build relationships with local suppliers. By focusing on made-to-order Billie Jo strives to maintain a low impact, sustainable practice that celebrates the hand made.
